CGSC Foundation

In 2012, the Canterbury Girls’ Secondary College (CGSC) Foundation was established.  This Foundation, a first for a Government girls’ school, provides an opportunity to invest in Canterbury’s future on a tax deductable basis as well as raising the necessary funding to sustain and grow in order to support our girls into the future. The CGSC Foundation offers families and community members an opportunity to make a tax deductible donation to assist girls who are experiencing serious financial hardship.

Canterbury Girls’ Secondary College offers unlimited educational opportunities in a caring and nurturing environment.  But for some of our students, even the simplest daily tasks, such as providing food, buying books and attending school can be difficult.  This is why the CGSC Foundation was established. Previously, students who were struggling relied on support from their fellow students, friends and staff.  With the establishment of the CGSC Foundation we can provide direct support to the vulnerable members of our College community.

It may surprise you that over the years some students attending the College are significantly financially and physically disadvantaged.  In some cases, students take outside employment and work for long hours to provide for their educational needs.  There are very limited funds outside the College to provide support for these students and at times it is left to the good graces of staff and fellow students to pick up the pieces.

A culture of giving was evident in the College’s earliest days where many of our current buildings were paid for by parents of the day.  Now it’s our turn to leave an important mark on the history of Canterbury Girls’ Secondary College, your school. We can only achieve this by creating and sustaining a culture of giving and generosity.

The Foundation that enables tax deductible contributions for such welfare funds has been established through the generous contributions of some College families and the Kew Rotary Club. It is managed by a board including the College Principal, College Treasurer and three former Council Presidents. Critically, even small donations to the Foundation will make a huge difference to some girls’ lives.

All donations to the Foundation have Donor Gift Recipient (DCG) and Tax Deductible status from the Australian Taxation Office.

The students of Canterbury Girls’ Secondary College, today and tomorrow, thank you for your generosity.

Donations are accepted at any time at the College office.
