About UsThe Mangarra Society was formed in 1988 following a Grand Reunion during the School's 60th Jubilee Year.
The aims of The Mangarra Society are to:
- Maintain sentiments of affection for Canterbury Girls' Secondary College and
to promote in all ways possible the welfare of the school and its community.
- Keep alive school friendships.
- Provide for social and cultural gatherings among the members
- Give financial assistance to the school where possible.
The Society exists to keep ex-students in touch with each other and the school, and to help current students with financial assistance, career guidance and opportunities, and sponsorship of arts and academic prizes.
The Mangarra Society's funds are raised solely through memberships. Without membership fees we are unable to provide money for the Needs Fund, art and academic prizes, reunion support, or projects for the school. Members receive four newsletters a year (including the school magazine) and invitations to our Annual General Meeting/Luncheon, but most of all members are helping us to support the school and students in many ways.
The Mangarra Society contributes to the school in a number of ways, including making donations to the Needs Fund which assists students who are unable to afford school supplies, uniforms or excursions. We see this as an important part of our activities - we believe that all students are entitled to participate and benefit equally from their attendance at the school.
We are compiling a comprehensive database of past students to provide class lists for reunions.
Members will receive newsletters each year with information about school functions, stories of past students and activities of The Mangarra Society.
Your membership fees help us to help financially disadvantaged students.
