2021 NAPLAN results for Canterbury Girls’ Secondary College were outstanding. While there may be differing opinions regarding NAPLAN, they are one indication, in conjunction with other student data, about student achievement and provide one more tool for decisions regarding teaching and learning.
At Year 7, the mean for CGSC for Reading was 587 compared to the State mean of 552, for Writing the CGSC mean was 576 (State 529), the CGSC mean for Spelling was 575 (State 552), for Grammar and Punctuation the CGSC mean was 580 (State 539) and for Numeracy the CGSC mean was 591 (State 559). At Year 9, the mean for CGSC for Reading was 617 compared to the State mean of 584, for Writing the CGSC mean was 614 (State 554), the CGSC mean for Spelling was 611 (State 586), for Grammar and Punctuation the CGSC mean was 615 (State 583) and for Numeracy the CGSC means was 624 (State 593).
In terms of the number of students performing above the National Minimum Standard, at Year 7, 96% of students achieved above the national minimum standard in Reading, 96% in Writing, 96% in Spelling,92% in Grammar and Punctuation and 97% in Numeracy. In Year 9, 92% of students achieved above the national minimum standard in Reading, 90% in Writing, 97% in Spelling, 90% in Grammar and Punctuation and 94% in Numeracy.
I congratulate all teachers, students, parents and carers for the work that is been done to increase literacy and numeracy skills across all years. After a difficult past couple of years, the results are a cause for celebration.
