Leadership
Student leaders are appointed annually and are responsible for representing the College at public forums, for fostering school spirit and traditions, for being a role model for other students, and for promoting student participation in College and House activities such as performing arts and sporting events.
The Arts Captain is responsible for overseeing the many Arts activities held within the College, including Chorals.
In addition, the Arts Captain works closely with the Head of Music in organising the annual music concert. The Arts Captain is supported by Arts Captains in each House.
The Community Liaison Committee provides a forum for students to discuss and organise activities which foster greater relationships between the College and the wider community, to contribute to decision making and to undertake fund raising.
The Community Liaison Committee is led by the Year 12 Community Liaison Captain and supported by members elected annually by each class. The Community Liaison Captain is supported by a liaison teacher.
Canterbury Girls’ Secondary College values academic learning and outcomes, and so recognises this in the student leadership roles. Roles based on learning areas symbolically and publicly demonstrate the importance of these areas. The Captains are public advocates and support for the curriculum areas they represent.
The positions are: Visual Arts Captain, Music Captain, Humanities Captain, STEM Captain, Sports Captain, Languages Captain and English Captain.
The Environmental Committee provides a forum for students to discuss issues related to the environment, both within the College and more globally, to contribute to decision making and to undertake fund raising.
The Environmental Committee is led by the Year 12 Environmental Captain and supported by members elected annually by each class. The Environmental Captain is supported by a liaison teacher.
The Middle School Captains provide leadership to students in the Middle School and assist the Senior School Captains in the organisation of College activities. They are elected annually.
The Social Services Committee provides a forum for students to discuss and organise activities which foster greater understanding of community issues, to contribute to decision making and to undertake fund raising. There is a particular focus on supporting charitable organisations and responding to community events such as bushfires and floods.
The Social Services Committee is led by the Year 12 Social Services Captain and supported by members elected annually by each form. The Social Services Captain is supported by a liaison teacher.
The Sports Captain is responsible for overseeing the many Sports activities held within the College. This includes the Swimming and Athletics Carnivals and the cross country program.
In addition, the Sports Captain works closely with the Head of Sport and Sport Education to organise the inter-House sporting competition held throughout the year.
